The Anatomy of a Nutshell PDA Case

http://www.tuff-as-nuts.com

PDAs, smartphones and digital cameras, handheld computers and the cases that hold them come in all shapes and sizes; from skinny leather wraps that fit once and then degrade over months, to real leather cases, plastic cases and solid aluminum cases that often resemble those cigar boxes your grandfather used to tote.

Located in Auckland New Zealand, the Nutshell Corporation has been designing and building real leather belt cases for all types of PDA (Portable Digital Assitant), Smartphones, cellular telephones and digital cameras and other mobile electronics since 1997, and today enjoys growing success in its chosen niche.

Developed from the premise that the designers and developers of these small, smart electronic devices have labored long and hard to create something that feels nice to hold and looks good in your hand, Nutshell believes the importance of a good after-market case is to provide protection when the user is not actually handling the device...more when they are toting it. With this in mind the company developed a series of sandwich-layered belt cases that actually provides this protection, yet is not bulky or akward in use.

Working on the priciple that a piece of leather, when folded over and sewn along the edge takes of the shape of an envelope, the Nutshell Tuff as Nuts range of products are often tight to begin with, but quickly "break in" to provide long lasting protection on your belt that just gets and looks better and better as time goes on.

Nutshell also embeds a solid piece of strong polpropylene plastic into the back of its cases, to provide protection for the often fragile color screen displays, instructing its customers to place their devices into their Nutshell case with the screen to the hip, so that any knocks will be absorbed by the back of the device, and the battery, instead of the front of the unit - and the screen.

The Fastening

But it is not just the use of real leather and embedded strengtheners that makes Nutshell's cases stand out from the crowd. The company searched long and hard to locate the right belt clip that makes sure the case stays where it is intended - on your belt.

After searching the planet for such a clip, Nutshell located one from a supplier in Texas. This clip is strong and virtually unbreakable - it rivets into the case and is designed to last the lifetime of the case (and some users report they are still wearing their Nutshell every day after five or more years!).

More importantly, unlike other clips that rotate, or consist of multiple parts, this clip is a one-piece design that will not fall apart and lets the case "hug" the user's waistline - so that when the PDA, the smartphone or the camera is being used the case lies flat and does not have any additional bulk.

As well as a strong steel clip, Nutshell listened to its customers and developed a unique leather patch that is sewn onto the back of some cases to let the user slide their case onto their belt, rather than clipping it on. The patch is designed so that the case can be angled for a best fit....upright, sideways or at 45 degrees, left or right hand - perfect positioning for those folk of larger build who are not able to comfortably wear a traditional belt case because of their girth or physical shape.

The Style

A Nutshell belt case can be virtually built to order online from the company's website (http://www.tuff-as-nuts.com).

Users get to not only choose the type of fastening that best suits their needs, they also get to select from a range of colors and leather finishes and to choose whether the case is an open topped pouch, has a tab that Velcro's shut across the top of the case, or a full flap that totally covers the case and its contents - safe from prying eyes and light fingered folk who would take advantage of any opportunity to deprive you of your own most valuable personal possession.

Nutshell cases can also be built with an elasticized front pocket - a great addition for folk who carry memory sticks or cards to increase the usability for their PDA or smartphone (especially useful for devices that contain a camera and need the extra memory).

Larger Devices

Nutshell does not limit itself to small belt cases for personal electrionics.

The company also designs and manufactures a series of strong leather zippered cases developed to contain mid sized portasble handheld "clamshell" computers and the growing range of Tablet PC devices.

More innovation was needed to protect these devices and Nutshell identified a material called "hiProtec" that provides the most versatile protection yet. Originally created to protect surf boards from the intense heat and the UV rays of the Southern sun, "hiProtec" is a closed cell material backed by a 1000 denier weave of silver foil, developed with the express purpose of providing a safe and stable environment for fiberglass and resin when transported on a vehicle's roof rack.

Nutshell has sandwiched "hiProtec" between the outer layers of real leather and an inner layer of polypropylene plastic to build a case that not only shrugs off hard wear and rough handling, it also provides a safe environment in places - like the parcel tray in an automobile - where temperatures can often soar to over one hundred degrees. In environments like these any electronics will quickly succumb, twist, warp and even melt without protection.

Customers who are airplane pilots and engineers report that this unique construction technique creates a stable environment for electronics that does not react with changes in air pressure and temperature and prevents screen "fogging" and moisture build up.

Conclusion

In conclusion, there are many different styles of cases that claim they provide protection for the delicate electronic equipment that is rapidly becoming a part of our everyday lives, but only a Nutshell case that provides the best protection.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and we look forward to providing you with the best possibly protection for your PDA, smartphone or other mobile electronic device.
